This year I learned 1. A ton of techincal stuff: Adobe's Photoshop Album, bidding and buying on ebay, using points to get gifts for free stuff, frequent flyer ticketing, blogging. 2. Then there was learning how to REST more. Exploring contemplative worship. 3. A new dramatic form of prayer, a spin off of Playback Theatre, called ENACTED PRAYER.
In walking with God I grew most from 1. A book called CHANGES THAT HEAL by Henry Cloud and John Townsend. 2. We also had a great counselor come stay with us for 10 days. She was an amazing encouragement. 3. Being exposed to new ideas of private worship and ways of drawing near to God that are not from my tradition (a book called SACRED PATHWAYS).
One of my best adventures was going to China to direct the recording of some training scripts I'd written (I didn't write in Chinese, they were translated, but I did my direcing in Chinese).
I saw God at work when 1. we were approved for Permanent Residence in Singapore on our first application. 2. Talking through Neil Anderson's STEPS TO FREEDOM IN CHRIST with individual actors and seeing their hearts turn to following Jesus and the changes in their lives.
A real gift from God was 1. being asked to write a chapter for a book JOURNEY TO PARENTHOOD that is now enjoying great sales in Singapore. Ahh, and 2. seeing THE MARRIAGE OF FIGERO at the opera house in Sydney!
Something I really enjoyed doing was, skipping church some sundays and having FAMILY WORSHIP on the big bed with my 7 and 11 year old boys. There are these great dvd's now that you can sing with. Very visual and beautiful.
One of my happiest moments this year was 1. hosting a surprise birthday party for a friend at the botanic gardens. Being seranaded. 2. My husband and 11 year old son started taking guitar lessons together and have really learned to play some great songs.
I was really brave when I spoke in public at a college in Australia (I like more intimate discussions rather than being a SPEAKER. So I just thought of the group of a few hundred as being a living room of intimate friends).
Something God took from me this year: fading vision. I got reading glasses last month.
I'm still trying to understand what God wants to teach me from attending and serving in a charismatic church when I'm not a charismatic. They speak in "tongues" when they pray and some other distinct differences that I'm used to). I often feel like the emotions of their worship is fake, superficial, or that their teaching is manipulative. I get really bugged by the hyperbole sometimes. I need to know what I'm to learn from being a part of this branch of the body of Christ (the church). I'm going to be in heaven with them forever so I need to start genuinely embracing them now.
Something I look forward to in 2005: 1. Seeing what changes occur in my children as they grow. 2. Seeing what adventures and challenges I get to grow through. 3. Enjoying simple pleasures. 4. Finding more beautiful locations where I can have free meetings with the Five Stars and others. 5. Discovering the house we'll live in next (what WILL God provide???). 6. Meeting once a week with a handful of wonderful artists from COOS. If you're reading this far: You all are a delightful addition to my 2005!
